In the modding community there was far more room for speculation about what became of the Taidan Republic for instance, which is lore from the end of HW1 and featured heavily in Cataclysm. A massive step back from the standard of storytelling the previous two games established. Which in my opinion is a mistake since HW2 had the worst plot out of all three games by far. Most of it isn't necessarily directly in conflict but for the sake of simplicity most people have chosen the last game, HW2, as being the canon standard. Ultimately though with Homeworld Dust, Homeworld 2's retroactively retconning the plot of HW1 (Long jump core McGuffin) and of course the upcoming Shipbreakers becoming a prequel set on Kharak, the lore is really all around the place. And of course the game also confirmed the nature of the Bentusi as being "unbound" organic-machine integrated beings like Karan S'Jet became. One of the best things about Cata was reading the manual and learning about how Hiigarans settled after reclaiming their homeworld. ![]() In developing Homeworld Cataclysm Barking, Dog Studios put just as much work into the lore as Relic had. But it was so successful that Sierra immediately hired another developer to work on a "stand alone episode" that became Cata and of course Relic was eventually roped into making a direct sequel. The thing you have to understand is that Homeworld was never supposed to have a sequel.
